ColumbiaGrid taking the role of Northwest Area Coordinator

BPA will begin transitioning its Northwest Area Coordinator role (WECC power flow base case development) to ColumbiaGrid on March 5, 2010.  The ColumbiaGrid members determined that the Area Coordinator role would be an appropriate activity for ColumbiaGrid when they adopted the ColumbiaGrid Planning and Expansion Functional Agreement (PEFA) in February of 2007.  In May of 2009, BPA sent out a notification letter informing Northwest entities that this transition was being planned.

"In ColumbiaGrid, we now have the ability to resolve the three fundamental transmission questions: What transmission facilities should be built? Who should build them? Who should pay for them? With ColumbiaGrid's independent staff and process to resolve disputes, we can answer these questions effectively and in a timely fashion to facilitate our region's new resource development needs."
